More than $20,000 has been raised for Huron substitute teacher’s family who was found dead on New Year’s Eve after he had been missing for weeks.

According to the CHP, the body of Francisco Madera was found on Dec. 31. Madera’s body was recovered from a canal, according to news reports.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beloved brother and son Francisco Madera,” said Cecilia Madera on the GoFundMe page. “He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his absence has left a space that can never truly be filled.”

The family is raising funds to help cover funeral and memorial expenses and the unexpected financial burden his death has placed on his family.

The 34-year-old Madera went missing on Dec. 13 in Kings County. He was last seen around 10:40 p.m. in Armona just west of Hanford. Madera’s vehicle, a four-door 2008 Honda Civic, was located on Dec. 15, two days after he went missing.

Cecilia Madera said her brother “was known for his kindness, his laugh, and the way he showed up for the people he cared about. As a brother, he was protective, loyal, and always ready to help. As a son, he was loving and deeply cherished. He touched so many lives simply by being himself.”

Madera’s family said Dec. 21 would have been his 35th birthday. He’s the oldest of four siblings.

Family plans to honor and repatriate Francisco Madera to his birthplace in Jalisco.

“During this incredibly difficult time, our family is coming together to honor his life and say goodbye with the love and dignity he deserves,” Cecilia said. “He always carried his roots with him, and we are hoping to be able to lay him to rest in his birthplace, Jalisco. A place that meant so much to him and continues to hold deep meaning for our family. “

“Thank you for your love, support, and kindness as we remember and celebrate the life of a truly special person who will always be in our hearts,” Cecilia Madera said.
