74-year-old arrested after neighbor shot to death in Fresno, police say

Fresno police arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the fatal shooting of his neighbor on Tuesday.

Fresno Police Department, in a statement Wednesday, said officers responded to a neighbor disturbance and gunshot in the area of Clinton Avenue and Bond Street, east of First Street, around 6:15 p.m. They found a 64-year-old man who had been shot; a single wound to the upper body.

The man, identified as Mark Tarasevic, was transported Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died, despite lifesaving efforts, police said.

Tarasevic’s neighbor, John Gentry, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting and booked into Fresno County Jail, police said. A firearm was recovered that police said was used in the shooting.

It would be the 22nd murder in Fresno in 2025, according to Lt. Larry Bowlan.

There had been 30 in Fresno at this same time last year, he said.
