‘Going to kill you.’ Feds allege Fresno man made threats for foreign gangster

A man living in Fresno was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for allegedly making international threats of violence on behalf of organized crime.

The U.S. Attorneys Office says Jasmeet Singh, 30, made threats to kill a person only identified as “Victim 1” for cooperating with authorities in India and Canada. An FBI agent wrote in the court filing that Singh did so on behalf of Lawrence Bishnoi, an Indian gangster.

Singh, who is a national of India, has connections to Fresno and Stockton, but the FBI said Singh was living in Fresno when he made threats on May 27, 2024.

Victim 1 was living in Canada at the time after having fled India, the complaint says. Victim 1 told the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that they would like to go to India but feared being killed, the complaint said.

Singh contacted Victim 1 through Whatsapp, an encrypted messaging app for smartphones, and made threats in text messages and phone calls, according to the complaint. In at least one video call, his face appeared, prosecutors alleged.

Investigators said he used the username “Lucky Horshiarpur,” which is a first name he has used on social media and a last name that references a region in India.

In the messages, Singh described Victim 1’s car and the kinds of coffees the victim drank to show he knew where to find the victim in Canada, prosecutors alleged. Many of the voice messages were mostly in Punjabi.

He also sent a recent photo of the victim’s car as intimidation, an FBI agent wrote.

“Sister-f---er, run wherever you want to run to. We’re going to kill you anyways,” Singh said in Punjabi, the complaint says.

Singh remained in federal custody. He faces the potential of a five-year sentence in prison and a $250,000 fine.
