Monache High student stabbed, found in classroom, Porterville police say

A 15-year-old Monache High student was stabbed and found in a classroom Monday morning.

Officers responded to the school at 8:13 a.m. after receiving a call from a staff member who said one of their students had been stabbed, Porterville Police Capt. Josh Maniss said.

Officers arrived at the school and located the victim with a stab wound to her left leg. She was taken to a local hospital and has since been released.

Officers found a 19-year-old suspect who matched the description walking in the area of Prospect Street and Henderson Avenue, a short distance away from the high school. He was arrested without incident.

The motive for the stabbing is under investigation.

Monache was placed on lockdown for at least three hours.

“The Porterville Police Department would like to remind the public that the safety and security of our students and staff remain top priority and we are working closely with staff from Monache High School and the Porterville Unified School District in furtherance of this investigation,” police said.
