Shotspotter alerts Fresno police about gang-related shooting

Fresno police are investigating a gang-related shooting that happened early Friday outside a restaurant.

Lt. Joe Gomez said the department’s Shotspotter detection technology notified officers of gunfire in the 400 block of North Diana Street. They found a man nearby who had been shot in the calf. The injury was not serious.

The victim told officers that another man, who identified himself as a Crips gang member, shot him after an argument in front of the Me-Khong Restaurant.

The victim was out with his friends when he decided to walk to a nearby liquor store, Gomez said. The shooter began to yell at the victim, and some sort of fight ensued between the victim’s group and the suspect’s group.

During the fight, the suspect retrieved a gun and fired several shots — one of which struck the victim. One shot hit a parked vehicle, and two hit an apartment on Diana. No other injuries were reported.

Gomez described the suspect as an Asian man wearing a black T-shirt with a large white design on the front.
