Update: Victim killed in barrage of 32 gunshots in Fresno identified by police

A man was shot and killed Thursday night in a Fresno neighborhood after a 32-round ShotSpotter was detected, police said.

In an update Friday, police said the fatal shooting was gang-related and identified the victim as 24-year-old Taylor Washington.

Officers responded at 5 p.m. Thursday near Jensen Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and were directed to a victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the upper torso. Police said the victim fled the shooting scene in the 2700 block of South Bardell Avenue to a nearby backyard.

Officers provided life-saving measures before EMS arrived. Washington was taken to a hospital where he died.

Lt. Paul Cervantes on Thursday said neighbors told officers a man was hopping fences who was detained. In the update Friday, police said two people “on probation were detained for questioning after being found in the area, one of whom attempted to flee from officers.”

No arrest had been made as of noon Friday and homicide detectives continue to work the case in the area.

Cervantes on Thursday said the victim was able to provide officers with information before he died.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.

It was the fifth homicide in Fresno in 2025 — “and the third with confirmed gang ties,” police said Friday. “For comparison, there were eight homicides by this date last year — all gang-related.”
