The 18-year-old pregnant woman shot in an eye in Reedley during an apparent road rage incident on Sunday has been identified by her family as Ma de la Cruz Arciga.

Arciga’s husband issued a written statement Thursday afternoon through Community Regional Medical Center:

“Hello, I am the husband of Ma. I want to thank the entire community and those who have been worried about my wife, baby and myself. At the moment, she is stable, thank God. She still cannot speak but she can answer with her hands or by writing. And thank God that our baby is still alive. I would like to request, if possible, that you keep my wife and child in your prayers. Many thanks.”

The husband was not identified. Arciga is still hospitalized and is listed in stable but critical condition. Her unborn baby is alive, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The family is asking the public to keep their eyes open for the suspect or suspects and the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said. Officers are searching for a light brown SUV similar to a GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe in connection with the shooting.

The incident happened about 10:30 p.m. Sunday on the 10800 block of South Englehart Avenue. Law enforcement said the woman’s husband passed the suspect’s slow-moving vehicle, which a short time later caught up with the victim’s vehicle. Someone fired at least one round, striking Arciga in the left eye.

The sheriff’s office said Arciga’s husband is cooperating with the investigation.
