Fresno, Tulare and Kings counties get grants to stop workers’ compensation fraud
Fresno, Tulare and Kings counties have received grants to fight workers’ compensation insurance fraud.
The grants are funded through employer assessments and help law enforcement investigate and prosecute workers’ compensation fraud, which includes medical provider fraud, employer premium fraud, insider fraud, claimant fraud, employees defrauded by their employers and the willfully uninsured acting within the underground economy.
Fresno County got a $1.2 million grant, Tulare County, $499,258, and Kings County, $263,875.
Statewide, $34.9 million in grants was awarded to 37 district attorney offices, representing 42 counties.
“The impact of fraud is felt across California as a drain on our economy,” Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said. “These grants will assist district attorneys across the state in uncovering workers’ compensation fraud schemes and prosecuting those who take advantage of the system.”
