A Pennsylvania judge handed down the sentencing of a Fresno resident Monday for his conviction of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Alberto Padilla, 23, was sentenced in Pennsylvania federal court to 60 months in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy imposed the sentence on Padilla.

According to court documents, between June and October of 2021, Padilla, while in California, communicated with a 13-year-old minor located in the Western District of Pennsylvania.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Padilla sought and received materials depicting the sexual exploitation of the minor.

Judge Hardy noted both the serious nature of Padilla’s conduct and the ongoing harm that such activity can have on children who are victims of such crimes.

Following prison, Padilla will have five years of supervised release.
