Visalia police pull suicidal woman to safety
A woman acting as if she would commit suicide by jumping off a highway overpass was pulled to safety, Visalia police said Monday.
About 3:25 p.m. Sunday, police got a call that an adult woman was hanging over the rail of the Highway 198 overpass at Burke Street and Mineral King Avenue.
Another caller told police she was staring down at the freeway.
Arriving officers found her outside the protective guard rail, holding a closed knife in one hand and hanging onto a street sign.
Police tried to open a dialog with the woman but were unsuccessful.
Acting quickly, officers pulled her to safety and no one was hurt, police said. She was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. Her name and age were not released.
