Tulare man gets 16 years for sex crimes
A Tulare man was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years in state prison for raping a woman who let him sleep on her couch when he had nowhere else to go, the Tulare County District Attorney said.
Alfonso Collins IV, 23, pleaded no contest to counts of forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, sodomy by use of force and extortion.
On Nov. 21, 2013, Collins, an acquaintance of the female victim, showed up at her apartment and asked for a place to stay for the night.
Collins raped and sodomized the victim and demanded money in order to stop the assault, which the victim agreed to give him, the DA said.
Sex crimes are considered violent felonies and strikes under the “Three Strikes and You’re Out Law.” Collins also has to pay more than $17,000 in restitution and register as a sex offender for life.
