A felon was arrested Thursday in east-central Fresno after officers found methamphetamine and an illegally modified shotgun in his car, police reported.

Officers from the Violent Crime Impact Team were patrolling near University and Chestnut avenues when they spotted a suspicious vehicle, a spokesman said. As they approached the car, several nearby residents called 911, warning that one of the occupants was armed, selling narcotics and terrorizing the neighborhood.

While searching the car, officers found methamphetamine and the shotgun. The driver, Kenneth Smith, said that he had be given the weapon and was working on it. Smith was arrested on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
