Thanksgiving shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured, police say. Neighbors heard various shots
A man was shot and killed early Thanksgiving and another was injured in Fresno.
Officers with the Fresno Police Department responded to the area of Pleasant Street and Fedora Avenue for multiple gunshots heard.
Officers arrived and located two men — a 22-year-old and a 28-year-old — with gunshot wounds outside of an apartment complex. A third person with them was not struck by gunfire.
Police said Friday a group of men had approached the victims and opened fire for unknown reasons.
The 22-year-old, identified Friday by police as Anthony Calderon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The older victim was listed in critical but stable condition, police said.
Neighbors told The Bee they heard at least 12 gunshots that rang out at 2 a.m. with two different caliber firearms.
Another said he was awakened to gunfire and heard what sounded like a semi-automatic gun.
Evidence markers were placed on the roadway as detectives are investigating the city’s 28th murder. At the same time last year, there were 32.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 559-621-7000.
