Deputies on Friday investigated a homicide that took place east of Fresno.

Deputies responded to a call of an injured woman at 1:20 a.m. on Fowler Avenue, between Olive and Clinton avenues.

Medical aid was provided to her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti said it’s unclear what led to the woman’s death.

“Members of our Coroner’s Unit are conducting an examination on her to try and learn more,” he said.

Botti said the case was being investigated as a homicide.

Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and tried to find people to speak with so they can determine exactly what happened.

The investigation is ongoing and the victim has not been identified.
