30 extra officers target northwest Fresno crime

Fresno police are pouring 30 additional officers into the Northwest Policing District to focus on an upsurge in commercial robberies and other violent crimes.

Chief Jerry Dyer called for the extra manpower.

Sgt. Jaime Rios said the officers will be uniformed and in plain clothes and will target high-crime areas in the district. The Northwest district is roughly north of McKinley Avenue and west of Blackstone Avenue.
