Man arrested for DUI manslaughter in fiery fatal crash in Fresno County. Victim is ID’d

A 27-year-old Kingsburg man has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office after he was killed in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend.

Eli Lopez was killed at 11:05 p.m. Saturday when he was stopped at a posted stop sign in his Honda Accord when a Honda Civic that was going eastbound on Manning Avenue, near Hill Avenue struck the rear of the stopped Honda Accord, California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Salas said.

The Accord immediately became engulfed in flames and a woman passenger was removed from the Accord and survived the crash with moderate to major injuries.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, Salas said.

A third vehicle was stopped on the opposite side of the intersection and was struck on the driver side by the Civic. The driver of the other Accord suffered minor head injuries and the passenger had no injuries.

Three men in the Civic received moderate to major injuries. The driver of the Civic was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

He was identified by deputies as 24-year-old Jesus Zeferino of Reedley.

He was charged with DUI resulting in death, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also faces a charge of stalking, for which he had an outstanding warrant. His bail is $222,000.
