19-year-old ID’d after she was shot and killed in parking lot of Fresno store, police say
Police are investigating a homicide that left a 19-year-old killed early Saturday morning.
Officers arrived to the Rite-Aid parking lot at 3 a.m. at 8028 North Cedar Avenue and found a Aaliyah Bonman on the ground with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
She was taken to St. Agnes Hospital where Bonman was pronounced dead three hours later.
Homicide detectives learned that Bonman was in a fight 21-year-old Penelope Mehr. During the fight, Mehr allegedly shot once at Bonman.
Detectives also identified 18-year-old Nevaeh Solomon as the person who allegedly aided Mehr during the shooting.
Undercover detectives arrested Mehr on Sunday at Second Street and Jensen Avenue. Mehr was later booked into the Fresno County Jail for murder.
Solomon turned herself in early Tuesday and is facing an accessory to murder charge, police said.
Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said Bonman and Solomon knew each other.
“Tragic on so many different levels,” he said. “I can tell you that this incident was captured in its entirety from beginning to end. The incident was filmed by a bystander. The video of itself was disturbing. Graphic and shocking and quite frankly, it’s senseless.”
Cervantes said both agreed to meet at Rite-Aid to fight.
The gun remains outstanding, Cervantes said.
It is homicide No. 21 in 2024.
