The victim killed outside a northwest Fresno bar minutes before closing was identified.

Fresno Police on Monday said Gilberto Gutierrez, 38, was the victim who was shot and later died at the hospital.

Officers responded at 1:51 a.m. Sunday at Ewell’s Place, located at the northeast corner of the Shaw and Marks avenues intersection, regarding a shooting victim.

Officers found Gutierrez in front of the bar with a gunshot wound.

Gutierrez was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Homicide detectives learned that Gutierrez was involved in an argument outside the bar between a group of unidentified men and women.

The incident turned into a fight before Gutierrez was fatally shot by one of the suspects, police said.

The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting, police said.

This was the ninth murder of 2024 in Fresno.
