A Porterville man is in jail after he severely beat a toddler who later died at Valley Children’s Hospital on Friday, the Porterville Police Department said.

Police arrived at a home in the 700 block of West Parkway Drive at 4:38 a.m. and found the infant not breathing. The 2-year-old boy was unresponsive and transported to Sierra View Medical Center for emergency treatment. Afterward he was airlifted to Valley Children’s.

Isaac Isaiah Murillo, 21, who is dating the boy’s mother and lives in the home, was arrested after detectives found evidence that he had inflicted the injuries to the child, police say.

This is the first homicide in Porterville this year. Murillo is being held on $1 million bail.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact detectives Wayne Martin and Rose Gurule at (559) 782-7400.
