One of brothers behind sleep center fraud in Fresno sentenced. $9M stolen from Medicare
One of two brothers was sentenced after being convicted of $1 million of fraudulent Medicare claims through his VIP Sleep Center business in the Fresno area.
Travis Gober, 45, of Hanford was sentenced Monday to 19 months in prison for health care fraud and aggravated identity theft through the businesses in Fresno and Tulare counties, where the clinics performed diagnostic sleep studies on patients, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert said in a news release.
Gober faced a maximum sentence of 10 years.
Gober submitted thousands of Medicare claims between October 2019 and September 2021 despite not actually conducting the studies on patients, prosecutors said. He also faked referrals from doctors.
Gober committed the fraud in part to cover debts his brother, Jeremy Gober, had incurred without his knowledge, the news release said.
Jeremy Gober, 42, has pleaded guilty to health care fraud and aggravated identity theft related to other sleep clinics in the San Joaquin Valley that totaled about $8 million in fraud, prosecutors said.
The younger Gober was set to be sentenced May 20, prosecutors said.
