Former church employee gets probation after molesting 15-year-old

A man convicted of molesting a 15-year-old volunteer while working at Peoples Church of Fresno in 2011 was given a suspended sentence of one year in jail, three years probation and 100 hours of community service on Tuesday in Fresno County Superior Court.

In another aspect of the sentence, he will not have to register as a sex offender.

Casey Ogden was 24 at the time of the sexual assault, which was committed on church property. The girl told her parents about the encounter on Aug. 20, 2014. They alerted the church the following day, which informed Fresno police. Ogden was arrested on Sept. 3.

Ogden worked as a part-time technical director from August 2009 to May 2012. He was never a part of the pastoral staff, and church leaders said they had never before received a complaint about him . The girl was a volunteer at the church during this time.

Police determined that Ogden and the girl were friends for several years but had no evidence of any other sexual encounters between the two.

Investigators also said the sex act was an isolated incident that did not involve any other victims or Peoples Church staff members.
