Driver arrested for alleged hit-and-run that killed Fresno woman, police say. She was 19
Police said Monday they arrested the driver they believe left the scene after fatally striking a 19-year-old Fresno woman.
Officers arrested Joseph Valles, 49, who they said was behind the wheel of the car as it struck Corina Samuels about 11:20 p.m. Oct. 3 near Ashlan and Valentine avenues, police said.
Samuels and another woman were crossing Ashlan and were nearly to the center median when struck, police have said.
Valles left the scene after the collision and did not render any aid to Samuels, police said. It was not clear what caused the crash.
Samuels was pronounced dead at the scene when first repsonders arrived, according to the police.
Valles was arrested on suspicion of a hit-and-run causing death on Oct. 10, police said, and was no longer in custody on Monday.
