Mendota police shoot and strike suspect. Fresno sheriff’s detectives to handle investigation

Mendota police officers shot and wounded a suspect Wednesday night in the western San Joaquin Valley town, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The incident took place about 7:30 p..m. near at Marie and 7th streets in the town with an estimated population of just 12,618 but considered to have a high crime rate.

It was not immediately known the suspect’s condition, how many shots were fire and what transpired prior to the shooting.

Fresno County Sheriff’s detectives are handling the investigation.

No officers were injured, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
