A man died in an early morning shooting Tuesday in central Fresno, according to police.
Investigators closed off Grant Avenue southeast of Belmont and Cedar avenues about 4 a.m. as they went over the scene where a man was killed in the street, police said.
Detectives appeared to be searching the neighborhood for evidence and asking for witnesses.
Police were called to the scene after ShotSpotter gunfire notification software alerted them to eight rounds fired on Grant Avenue, Lt. Bill Dooley said in an update about 7:45 a.m.
The man was found with several gunshot wounds and pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The killing was the 23rd intentional homicide so far this year, and the second in three days. There were 36 at the same time last year.
