3 people struck by gunfire as shots erupt during gathering in Fresno’s Tower District
Three people were struck by gunfire early Sunday in the Tower District.
Police said the shooting took place at 2:40 a.m. at East Olive and North Wishon avenues.
Fresno Police Lt. Henry Garcia said officers were already in the area for a disturbance when they heard multiple shots fired that was picked up on the department’s electronic ShotSpotter activation.
Officers went to Wishon Avenue and found three gunshot victims. One was struck multiple times in the lower body, one was shot in the upper body and another in the midsection, Garcia said.
The three victims were taken to a local hospital and their conditions are not known as of Sunday afternoon.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately known.
Garcia said there were a lot of people on the north and south ends of the Tower District.
Earlier, officers responded to an unconscious man who was missing clothes.
Witnesses told officers that the man was chased by several men and it’s unknown what occurred that caused the victim to get injured.
The victim was taken to the hospital and his condition was not known.
