Man dies after stabbing near Fresno’s Poverello House. Police question suspect

A man was detained near Fresno’s Poverello House Wednesday afternoon following a fatal stabbing of an unhoused man, Fresno Police reported.

Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the fatal assault happened shortly after 12:30 p.m. near the center, which provides aid to the poor and homeless near Ventura and F streets. Arriving officers found the victim nearby with a wound to his chest. He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

A suspect was being questioned by officers, but Trueba Vega said it was not clear whether he was involved in the assault.
