Mariposa man arrested for allegedly soliciting sex with minor

The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office arrested on Thursday a man who they say sent lewd photos and tried to arrange a meeting with a 14-year-old girl.

Spokeswoman Kristie Mitchell said the office received multiple reports stating that Matthew Tilton, 25, had inappropriate conversations with minors on social media. Investigators contacted Tilton, who sent explicit photos and asked inappropriate questions to someone he knew to be a 14-year-old girl.

On Thursday, Tilton asked to meet the girl to perform sexual activities and told her not to tell anyone, Mitchell said. He was arrested for allegedly soliciting a meeting with a child for sex.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for his home and social media accounts. An investigation into other possible crimes is ongoing. Anyone with information on Tilton is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (209) 966-3615.

The sheriff’s office urges parents to carefully monitor their children’s social media use to keep them from becoming a victim.
