Update: Suspect wanted in 4 Fresno shootings surrenders to police, chief says
A man wanted for his alleged involvement in three shootings surrendered to police Friday afternoon after hiding from officers for hours.
Police Chief Paco Balderrama said “it was part of a ongoing shooting investigation into two rival gangs.”
Officers attempted to serve a search warrant about 7 a.m. at a home near Ninth Street and Bellaire Way, which is northwest of Dakota and Cedar avenues.
The 21-year-old man was wanted for four different shootings, Balderrama said and “was armed at the time” and “various firearms were found inside the premises.” None of the shootings turned fatal, he said.
A high-powered rifle and several semiautomatic handguns were found, Balderrama said.
The man was seen by an officer escaping from a window in the home, police said. He jumped through the backyard and went into a garage, where he was eventually found.
No injuries were reported.
Nearby Centennial Elementary School on Saginaw Way and Ninth Street were locked down as a precaution.
