Man breaks into home where ex-girlfriend stays, stabs rival, Madera County deputies say

A man was in custody Wednesday accused of breaking into a home where his ex-girlfriend was staying before he was shot by another man inside, the Madera County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 911 call for help came in about 10:30 p.m. Monday from a home on Big River Way in Coarsegold, the sheriff’s office said, after the man broke into the home.

The man inside the residence, who called 911, was stabbed in the head and chest by a suspect, the sheriff’s office said. The caller was able to retrieve a gun and shot the suspect, a 32-year-old man from Orange Cove, once in his shoulder.

Both men were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

The man who was shot was arrested after he was treated and booked into Madera County Jail on suspicion of felonies including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, the sheriff’s office said.

He was still in custody on Wednesday, according to jail records, and was held without bail.

Anyone with information regarding the case was asked by deputies to contact Madera County detectives at 559-675-7770.
