One detained after officer shoots man during traffic stop in Selma, sheriff’s office says

A Selma police officer shot a man during a traffic stop and the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation, a spokesperson said Thursday.

The officer pulled over a car before midnight Wednesday near McCall and Mountain View avenues south of Selma, the sheriff’s office said.

Few details of what happened were immediately available, but the sheriff’s office said during the stop the officer shot a man in the vehicle.

Deputies responded to the scene to assist Selma Police Department, and the man shot was detained. Emergency responders took him to an area hospital.

“He remains alive, but his exact condition is unknown,” the spokesperson said in a release.

The officer was not injured. Detectives with the sheriff’s office were called in to take over the investigation, the release said.

No further details were available.
