Man dead in Parlier after report of gunfire

A homicide victim was found in Parlier early Friday morning, authorities said.

Parlier police responded to a call of shots fired near the corner of Merced and K streets, about half a mile south of Parlier High School, at 4:36 a.m.

When police arrived, they found Luis Alberto Cruz, 65, of Parlier. He was taken to Selma District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Parlier police have turned over the investigation to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Botti said witnesses reported seeing an armed person leaving the scene in a 2006-2009 silver compact car, possibly a Hyundai or Kia.
