16-year-old killed at Fresno apartment complex identified. He was shot once in chest
The teenager shot and killed Tuesday near a swimming pool at a central Fresno apartment complex was identified Thursday by police.
He was 16-year-old Jodien Brown.
Police received multiple 911 calls around 6:15 p.m. for help at the Blackstone Acres apartments, located near the intersection of Sussex Way and Clark.
Upon arrival, officers found Brown on the sidewalk of the apartment’s courtyard area. He had been shot once in the chest, police said in an update Thursday.
Brown was taken to a local hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
A second teen, 14, was discovered to be at the hospital, too, with wounds to his leg and groin area. He was in stable condition, police said Thursday.
Homicide detectives learned a verbal disturbance occurred at the location involving several juveniles before the shots were fired.
Lt. Paul Cervantes said Brown was firing a weapon “and the sequence of events matters.”
“We need to find those person or persons responsible for this tragedy that occurred,” he said.
Cervantes said there were two guns used in the violence and neither has been recovered.
Detectives are still looking for video surveillance and additional witnesses to the fatal shooting.
The homicide is believed to be gang-related, Cervantes said.
Cervantes said there have been seven murders in the city to 17 this time in 2022.
