Officer and driver collide as he goes to 911 call in Fresno, police say. Both injured

A Fresno police officer and a civilian were injured in a crash following a call for help downtown Friday, police said.

The officer was responding after a caller reported seeing a man with a gun in downtown Fresno about 8:30 a.m., Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said.

He was headed to downtown on Fresno Street near G Street toward the underpass with lights and sirens going, police said, before striking a Honda.

The cruiser continued into the wall of the underpass, knocking over a light pole.

The driver the Honda was transported by emergency responders, police said. The officer drove himself to the hospital with an injury to his hand.

Police were investigating the scene Friday morning.
