Update: Driver killed in Fresno County crash identified. CHP says he may have been DUI
UPDATE: The driver who was killed was Roger Dean, 38, of Prather, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Monday evening.
ORIGINAL STORY: A driver may have been impaired when he died after crashing a truck on Highway 168 in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.
The 38-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt in a Chevrolet Silverado as he was going east on Highway 168 east of Auberry Road just after 10 p.m. Sunday, officer Mike Salas said.
He allowed the Silverado to travel north off the road and struck a dirt embankment before the truck overturned, CHP said.
The Silverado came to rest blocking both directions of the two-lane highway. The driver was ejected and died at the scene from his injuries, CHP said.
A 17-year-old inside had minor injuries, and an 18-year-old suffered major injuries, CHP said. The 18-year-old was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
The driver was believed to be impaired by drugs or alcohol, or both, CHP said. The investigation was ongoing.
