Update: One person dies, another critical in shooting at a Fresno County town

Authorities in Fresno County are investigating a shooting Friday night that left one man dead and another wounded.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. at 10th and J streets in Orange Cove.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrived and found two people with gunshot wounds.

Both were taken to a local hospital.

In an update on Saturday afternoon, deputies said 18 year old Ruben Velazquez of Orange Cove later died. A 17 year old is listed in critical condition.

What led up to the shooting is not clear, but authorities at the scene will continue to investigate.

Detectives are working to identify the suspect and vehicle responsible and is possibly a gang related, deputies said.
