Bandit sprays fluid on clerk at Fresno Walmart

Fresno firefighters treated a clerk at a Walmart grocery in east-central Fresno on Monday morning after a robbery suspect sprayed her with a substance.

The incident took place just before 10 a.m. at the store, located at Cedar and Shields avenues. Police Lt. Don Gross said the woman appeared to be in good condition.

It was not known what was in the fluid the bandit sprayed on the victim before demanding and taking cash.

Gross said he could not confirm initial reports that the robber threatened to ignite the fluid if the clerk did not turn over cash.

The suspect fled on foot. Gross said officers were examining video cameras for evidence.
