Man walking on Fresno roadway killed when two vehicles hit him. One driver fled

UPDATE: Coroner ID’s man killed in hit-and-run in Fresno. Police make an arrest

A man walking on a Fresno roadway Monday night died after two vehicles hit him, police said.

The incident happened at 8 p.m. at North Marks and West Clinton avenues west of Highway 99.

Fresno Police Lt. Leslie Williams said a Ford sedan traveling northbound on Marks was the first to hit the man. The driver pulled to the side of the road but fled the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, a red Chevrolet, did not see the man lying on the roadway and struck him.

The man, who is in his 40 or 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle remained on scene and is cooperative.

Williams said the Ford had “significant front-end damages.”

The driver who fled is facing felony hit-and-run. Detectives will determine if a vehicular manslaughter charge will be added, Williams said.

Williams said the man was wearing dark clothing.
