Man, 78, robbed in Clovis dies 2 weeks after attack. Suspect may face charges, police say

A 78-year-old man seriously injured in a robbery about two weeks ago in Clovis has died, his family confirmed.

The man identified by his family as Frank Moore was attacked and robbed outside a store at Herndon and Clovis avenues around 8 a.m. Dec. 30.

“He lost a battle to the substantial head and corporal injuries from a senseless act of violence,” the page says. “Frank carried a huge smile and infectious laughter.”

Responding officers found him on the sidewalk the day of the attack with a head injury, police said. He was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

He died Wednesday, police confirmed.

Joseph Wright, 37, approached Moore and struck him on the head before taking his cellphone, police said.

Wright was arrested in a nearby neighborhood, Clovis police spokesperson Ty Wood said.

Wright was held on suspicion of several crimes, including robbery, assault causing great bodily injury, elder abuse and others.

Wood said police have been in contact with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office and the Fresno County Coroner’s Office to determine whether Wright could face charges related to Moore’s death.

An autopsy was still pending, he said.

“We need to see some preliminary results to see if the actions of Mr. Wright caused the death or contributed to the death,” Wood said.

Wright was in custody Thursday at Fresno County Jail in lieu of $579,000 in bail, according to records.

Frank Moore, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2023, about two weeks after he was attacked and robbed of a cellphone in Clovis, his family and police confirmed.
