Siblings arrested in killing of Fresno man and shooting of his brother, police say
Two brothers have been arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a man and injuring his brother, Fresno police said Friday.
Tulare police made a traffic stop on Ryan Segura, 31, and Anthony Segura, 32, on Wednesday as they left the outlet mall in the city and arrested them on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, Fresno police said Friday in a news release.
Police responded about 3:40 p.m. Dec. 8 to an apartment complex just east of the intersection of Olive Avenue and Ninth Street after at least one gunman fired five rounds, police said.
Officers arrived to find 25-year-old Kenyatta Williams and his 27-year-old brother shot, police said.
Williams was pronounced dead at Community Regional Medical Center at 4:13 p.m. while his brother remained in stable condition, police said.
The brother’s injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, according to police.
Police had previously been called to the location for a disturbance, and officers managed to clear the area about an hour before the gun violence, police have said.
Lt. Paul Cervantes said Friday officers believe there was an inciting incident between the pairs of brothers, and that the Seguras returned with a gun.
Video footage did not catch the shooting but did record events leading up to it, he said. The Seguras deny being involved with the shooting.
Cervantes said the older Segura drove, circling the block multiple times before letting the younger brother out of the car to fire at Williams.
He said the Seguras have a criminal history, were on probation and have gang ties; Williams and his brother no such history or ties.
“We believe Ryan had some kind of altercation or disturbance with those individuals,” he said. “We’re still trying to figure out if there are any other reason.”
Detectives say they continue to look for witnesses and surveillance footage of the area.
His killing marked the 55th homicide this year in Fresno, which has since grown to 59. There were 74 in all of 2021.
