Police investigated an early morning shooting Monday in central Fresno that sent a 62-year-old man to the hospital.

The man was inside a car about 4:30 a.m. on Cornell Avenue, southwest of Hughes and Shields avenues, when the shooter fired several rounds into the car, Lt. Bill Dooley said.

The man was struck once in his lower body and multiple bullet holes were evident in the side of his car, Dooley said. Police also collected several casings.

The victim was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and was in stable condition Monday morning, he said.

The investigation is still in its early stages, Dooley noted. No one has been arrested.
