Marijuana deal killer tracked down and arrested in Nevada, Fresno police say

A Fresno man awaits extradition from Nevada after being arrested in connection to the December homicide of an 17-year-old, police said in an update Monday.

Police said Clarence Houghton, 22, met with the victim, Darion Wheeler, to sell him marijuana that Wheeler purchased through a phone app.

The victim left an apartment about 1:10 a.m. Dec. 9 on Barstow Avenue near Angus Street in northwest Fresno before witnesses heard multiple gunshots, police said.

Officers arrived to find Wheeler shot. He was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center, where he died.

Investigators determined Houghton shot Wheeler before fleeing, police said. They tracked him to Henderson, Nevada, before local authorities arrested him, police said.

Houghton is believed to be the only person involved in the shooting, police said.
