7-year-old hurt as gunshots strike Fresno apartment complex off Highway 168

Police tape at crime scene

A 7-year-old child was shot early Sunday as multiple rounds hit a southeast Fresno apartment complex.

California Highway Patrol officers responded just after midnight following reports of a shooting near Highway 168 and McKinley Avenue.

No victim was found at first, but Fresno police later contacted the CHP about a child in the area who suffered a gunshot wound.

Officers went to an apartment complex near the highway and found three apartments had been struck by gunfire. The child, the only person apparently hit, was hospitalized with what the CHP described as a non-life-threatening wound.

No suspect information was released.
