Shooting on a Fresno street sends one person to the hospital and a bystander also is hurt

Police tape at crime scene

A shooting Saturday night involving two vehicles in southeast Fresno sent one person to the hospital and left a bystander with minor injuries, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call about shots fired at a vehicle about 8:45 p.m. Saturday at Belmont and Willow avenues, Lt. John Reynolds said.

A person in one of the vehicles had a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center by another car, he said. The injury did not appear to be life threatening.

The bystander also was struck by gunfire, he said.

“Several shell casings from an obvious shooting were located at the scene,” he said. “It’s unknown if it’s gang-related, but that’s what its being looked at for.”
