Suspect shot by Clovis officers. He’s in stable condition and facing felonies, police say
A 48-year-old man was arrested after he was shot by two officers in Clovis on Tuesday night.
The shooting took place after 10 p.m. in front of a home near El Paso and North Burl avenues, near Nees and Armstrong, after police received a call about a possible armed person.
Officers arrived and a confrontation ensued between the suspect and officers when shots were fired, Clovis Police Department spokesman Ty Wood said Wednesday afternoon in an update to the incident.
The suspect was struck and taken to the hospital. He was listed in stable condition.
The suspect is from Clovis but was not identified further by police; he is facing felony charges, Wood said.
The area was closed off for several hours as detectives investigated the shooting.
The officers, who were not injured, are on paid administrative leave.
“Our department is working with the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office as they complete their independent investigation, as with any officer-involved shooting. To remain transparent with our community,” Wood said.
Police next week will release more information about the shooting, including officers’ body-camera footage.
