Mother pleads guilty to killing her two children five years apart, Madera DA says

A Madera mother will be sentenced to 28 years in prison for her role in the deaths of her 2-year old-son and 4-month-old daughter in separate cases that spanned five years.

Briseida Sran pleaded guilty in Madera County Superior Court to the deaths of Thaddeus and Divina Sran, the Madera County District Attorney’s Office said.

Sran’s husband, Sukhjinder Sran, also pleaded guilty in Thaddeus’ death and will receive 11 years in prison.

“Although it can see like no amount of time is enough, today there was justice for both Divina and Thaddeus Sran,” Madera County District Attorney Sally O. Moreno said in a video message on Facebook. She called the killing of Thaddeus “particularly tragic and heinous.”

Thaddeus was reported missing in July 2020.

After an eight-day search, authorities found his body in an orchard west of Madera. It had been burned.

His sister, Divina Sran, died in 2015 in what the Srans’ lawyer at the time referred to as “a tragic death of a child who had very serious medical issues.” Both Sran and her husband were investigated and ultimately cleared of any wrong doing.

Following Thaddeus’ death, the DA reopened the case and filed new charges against Sran for the 2015 death. In her plea, Sran admitted to killing both children, according to the DA’s Office.

There is no evidence of her husband being involved in the killing of Divina, the DA’s Office said.
