Man shot at Fresno playground near softball game. Police search for suspect
A 49-year-old man was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center Monday night after he was shot in the chest at Dickey Playground in central Fresno, police said.
The shooting took place at 8 p.m. as a softball game was taking place nearby, said Lt Brian Valles. He said the victim was in critical condition.
Police detectives were searching for evidence at the shooting scene near the Voorman and Calaveras streets section of the park. Valles said it appeared the motive for the shooting was an interpersonal dispute.
He said police were putting a high priority on arresting the suspect because of the apparent disregard for bystanders he displayed by firing in the crowded park.
