Update: Man found dead at downtown Fresno courthouse, CHP says. No longer suspicious

A man was found dead on the front steps of the B.F. Sisk Courthouse in downtown Fresno on Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A witness called 911 after seeing the man about 1 a.m. and officers arrived to find him dead from what initially appeared to be stab wounds, according to officer Traci Gallian.

CHP issued a news release about 9:30 a.m. that said the incident was determined to be not suspicious, saying the man died from a medical or natural cause.

“Upon further investigation, no signs of foul play or injuries consistent with trauma were identified,” the release said.

The CHP investigated the case because the courthouse is state property and the incident happened outside normal court hours, CHP said.

The area in front of the building on O Street between Fresno and Mariposa streets was blocked off during the investigation, CHP said.
