Teens try to carjack woman in Fresno parking lot. She returned with armed boyfriend

One teen was in the hospital and another was detained after an attempted carjacking went awry Thursday night, Fresno police said.

According to Lt. Brian Valles, just before 8 p.m. officers received reports of an assaulted teen and gunshots fired in the area of Clinton and Brawley avenues west of Highway 99.

Officers arrived and found a teen in the parking lot of the nearby shopping center with a head injury. He was taken to a hospital where he was treated.

Valles said officers learned that two teens, possibly 14 or 15 years old, attempted to carjack a woman in the parking lot. The woman managed to escape and drove away.

Fifteen minutes later, the woman returned to the parking lot with her boyfriend. The boyfriend then beat up one of the teens, while the other fled the scene.

According to Valles, the man possibly fired one or two shots into the air during the assault. The man and the woman returned to the vehicle and fled the area before police arrived.

Valles said the second teen was found and detained down the street. Officers were reviewing surveillance videos of the incident.
