Update: Man killed at Fresno apartment. Police say neighbors heard fight before a gunshot

A man was shot to death at an apartment complex in northwest Fresno on Monday morning.

The incident was reported to police just before 10:30 a.m. at the complex on Palm Avenue south of Sierra Avenue.

UPDATE: Victim of fatal shooting identified by police; suspect arrested

Officers arrived to find the man dead from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound, police department spokesman Felipe Uribe said at the scene.

Neighbors near the apartment where the man was killed reported what sounded like a fight of some kind and possibly one gunshot, Uribe said.

Few details were immediately clear, he said, including whether the victim lived in the building and also any information on a suspect.

Homicide detectives were at the scene, and part of the complex was taped off for the investigation.

A neighbor near the incident told The Bee that he’s lived in the complex since 2015 and the gated location is typically quiet and safe.

It was the 16th homicide so far this year in Fresno, according to police, compared to 26 at this time last year.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
