Tipton music teacher pleads no contest in child porn case
An after-school music teacher at Tipton School has pleaded no contest to felony charges of sending harmful matter to a minor and possession of child pornography, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.
Jonathan Urias, 27, of Tulare, also pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of annoying a child.
Judge Harry Papadakis indicated that Urias will be sentenced to a year in jail, three years prison suspended, five years probation and must register as a sex offender for life, the district attorney’s office said.
In March, Urias was accused of exchanging sexually explicit text messages and photos with a 13-year-old student. No inappropriate physical contact occurred, officials said.
Sentencing is set for Aug. 5 in Tulare County Superior Court in Visalia.
